Examining the Impact of Trauma

Hardcover |English |1498290175 | 9781498290173
Overview

Through twenty-five years of walking alongside those in conflict with their sexuality, Brad has come to understand what is at the heart of same-sex attraction: trauma. Little is understood about the concept of trauma and only recently has the method of trauma-informed care come to the forefront of helping others. People often react negatively to the concept of trauma being at the heart of any kind of gender identity or sexual confusion. Christians also struggle to understand and provide loving help to those who have sought to overcome attractions they do not desire. Believers need to be equipped with a deeper understanding of the foundations of same-sex attraction, whether they face these desires themselves or have loved ones for whom they care. An integral part of helping those with same-sex attraction is learning what we all have in common in experiences with trauma and our reactions to it. Brad draws from his own story, as well as his ministry experience, to add to the discussion in hopes of filling in the gaps that remain unfilled on the issue of same-sex attraction. ""This is a greatly needed book, written with personal understanding and compassion. Parents of young children would greatly benefit from the author's thorough explanation of early gender formation and identity. Any Christian who desires to know how to love and understand individuals and family members who are affected by homosexuality needs to read this book. The author is true to the Scriptures and to the redemptive heart of our Savior."" --Kristin J. Tremba, Director, Exchange Ministries, Orlando, FL ""It is very rare to find such a valuable resource for professionals and non-professionals. Prayerfully written, Mr. Grammer's book is a combination of professional insights and personal experience. In a well-organized, easy reading style, the author addresses issues regarding homosexual expression. It is a book that pastors and lay people can give with confidence to people who are seeking freedom in the midst of their homosexual struggles or have questions about homosexuality."" --Jeff Winter, Senior Pastor, First Presbyterian Church, Haines City, FL; Chairperson, OnebyOne ""This isn't theory! The global Body of Christ is in desperate need of voices of conviction and compassion in our current culture of sexual confusion, voices that not only hear the Word but do the Word. Brad Grammer is such a voice, courageously calling the Church out of its apathetic exile and awakening practical ways to love those with same-sex attractions far beyond Sunday."" --Nathan LaGrange, City Community Church, Indianapolis, IN Brad Grammer's personal story and experiences as a counselor and pastor over the past twenty-five years have led him to being sought after as a speaker and teacher at churches and national conferences on the subject of same-sex attraction. He is a contributing author to several books, including Building Unity in the Church of the New Millenium. He currently enjoys working with homeless youth in Indianapolis and spending time with his wife and sons.
