Storey's Guide to Growing Organic Vegetables & Herbs for Market: Site & Crop Selection * Planting, Care & Harvesting * Business Basics

Paperback |English |1603425713 | 9781603425711
Overview
With supermarket shelves and farmer’s markets offering more and more organic produce these days, the opportunities for new and existing farmers to profit from consumers’ healthier eating habits are multiplying every year. With 25 years under his belt as an organic farmer, Stewart has plenty of hard-earned expertise to draw on in this comprehensive, well-designed guidebook to growing ecologically safe herbs and vegetables. In seven lucidly written and informative sections, Stewart covers topics such as equipment and tools, soil management, crop rotation, harvesting, storage, and invaluable tips on marketing one’s products. Vitally important issues, such as dealing with weeds and insects without resorting to pesticides, are also given a thorough going-over, buttressed by the author’s frequent philosophical asides emphasizing the need to act as good stewards of the land. While Stewart’s target audience here is small- and mid-scale organic growers, novice gardeners can also benefit from his broadly tailored advice and find plenty of inspiration for using his organic methods to transform their backyard gardens. --Carl Hays--This text refers to theHardcoveredition.
