  • You are a committed Christian looking for something that will help you grow closer and deeper in your relationship with God. Each daily devotional consists of a word from the heart of God with references to supporting scriptures.
  • You are being challenged by what life is throwing at you and need something that you can read every day to be encouraged and inspired. • You have experienced psychological trauma and you need daily support to triumph over that trauma. The author writes both from her personal experience with overcoming the impact of trauma and also from her work as a trauma counselor.
  • You are trying to do Step 3 in the AA 12-Step program. Author Gwen Wellington calls herself the "queen of codependents" - you will benefit from this book's candid expose of her ongoing effort to hand her will and her life over to the care of a loving God.

Throughout her adult life, retired psychotherapist and pastor, Gwen Wellington, has practiced the art of listening to the voice of God in her daily meditation time. In each daily reading, she shares what she has heard, providing glimpses into the heart of the God who has empowered her to experience transformation in her various life experiences and challenges. She provides an example of this process in the introduction:

Four years ago, I found myself in the disconcerting situation of wrapping up my counseling practice without any clear sense of where I was headed. All I knew was that my body was telling me I had to make a change. I felt lost and very sad, because I loved my counseling work and I couldn't conceive that anything else would ever be as rewarding and satisfying. The following words from God became my anchor as I navigated the transition.

My treasure, my love: Even though you feel lost, you're not. Even though you think you don't know the way, you do. Even though you think you're giving up something extremely valuable, You simply are making room for something just as valuable. Walk confidently into the future, my love! I have such joy planned for you! Embrace this time of change and the change itself. Know that I surround you and I go before you. I fill you and I energize you. It's you and me together, sashaying boldly into the future. You'll see! What joy! Pure, unadulterated joy! You and me together. Yes. I like it!!

Editorial Reviews

In this set of devotions, Gwen invites us into her love affair with God. She paints a portrait of God--intimate, loving, compassionate, endlessly pursuing us so that we might turn into God's tender embrace. She has an incalculable imagination as she seeks to splash her vision of God on the canvas of these pages. She uses playful images that delight in the love that pours from God's heart for all of God's creation. Her images are powerful as they draw us into a more intimate relationship with God, and make our hearts dare to believe more deeply that God's love is surely for us all. In these words, I hear echoes of some of the great mystics of the past--Teresa of Avila, Julian of Norwich, Hildegard of Bingen. Gwen's words of pleasure and passion give us a glimpse into the heart of God, and are filled with hope and love. I encourage you to take up and read. You will find your own heart touched deeply by these glimpses into God's heart. --Rev. Dr. Yme Woensdregt, Clergy

God is desperately in love with us! Gwen's recording of God's love song for her challenges readers to question whether humanity has ever been separate from the Divine. Many people have an intellectual "knowing" of God through reading sacred texts, but Gwen has shared her experiential "knowing" of God through prayer. Intimacy with God can be felt within the context of deep pain. Gwen has tapped into the cosmic truth that God weeps with us when we are feeling alone, alienated and without meaning. Because humans are much more than just intellect, the presence of the Divine can be felt in other ways that go beyond printed words. To read Glimpses of God's Heart, leaves the reader with a felt sense of God's deep participation in our humanity. --Dr. Cheryl A. Noble, Psychologist

Truly, this grand devotional book is a matter of the heart. Gwen has opened to us all her most private times in that secret place. As I read the writings in this book, tears filled my eyes at times, as I saw the love that our Lord has for us and how this God, the Creator of the universe, is open to communicate with us in such an intimate way. These devotional readings will inspire you to develop an intimacy with the Lord. They will encourage you to journal your times with the Lord, found in that secret place. My hope is that, after you have read this book daily, you will say of the Lord, "I have heard of You by the hearing of the ear, but now my eyes see You." (Job 42:5) --Dr. Hazel Hill, co-founder of Victory Churches International and best-selling author of Praying God's Word

Gwen Wellington grew up near the Rocky Mountains in southern Alberta. After graduating from High School, she studied music and theology for four years at a Bible College. Following graduation, she established a Christian Education Resource Centre for a denominational conference and served for several years on a lay ministry team in her home church. After studying clinical social work, Gwen worked as a psychotherapist for 24 years, eventually specializing in psychological trauma. Gwen now lives in Cranbrook, British Columbia, where she is creating books and courses designed to enable people to enhance the quality of their lives by drawing on their relationship with God. Gwen relates the following seminal experience from her early life: "When I was a little four-year-old, I woke up one night in a fright from a nightmare about being all alone and vulnerable in a world-going-up-in-flames-end-times scenario. My mother comforted me by talking with me about Jesus and his promise to always be with us so we never need be alone. I invited Jesus into my life at that time, setting my life on a positive trajectory that continues to cut through all the adversity that comes my way." The author of Glimpses of God's Heart has found Jesus to be totally reliable. She relates three major examples of this. "First, he gave me hope for a positive future and thus sustained me during my teen years when I hated myself and was desperately unhappy. Secondly, he remained constant during my young adult years when I was questioning the existence of God. Thirdly, by his Spirit, he has motivated me for my entire adult life to keep seeking him and loving him and reading and studying the Bible and listening to his voice. Glimpses of God's Heart is one of the many fruits of Jesus' reliability in my life." Gwen Wellington's response to the hard knocks life threw at her was to develop a keen interest in what it takes to make a person tick and then to do everything she can to make it easier for others to have a positive life experience. She would summarize her life's work as doing whatever she can to enable others to enhance the quality of their lives. She loved being able to do that for many years in her work as a psychotherapist. She makes the following observation: "I have learned that a very important aspect of a positive life experience is to establish a vibrant relationship with God, so now I'm excited about having published a book that I'm hoping will help many readers to enjoy that life-giving relationship with the Divine." Gwen enjoys socializing with friends and family, making music, playing with her Pomeranian, writing, sharing the word of God, creating lectin-free meals, and playing online Scrabble games with her husband. Gwen is the proud mother and grandmother of two children, their partners, and four grandchildren. For inspiration and motivation, visit Gwen's blog at www.wellington-author.com/blog/.
