Margaret, Queen of Navarre: The Heptameron is a collection of 72 short stories written by Marguerite, Queen of Navarre in the 16th century. The stories are framed within a larger narrative of a group of ten characters who are stranded in the Pyrenees mountains and pass the time by telling each other tales. The stories cover a wide range of themes, including love, marriage, betrayal, and the hypocrisy of the church. The Heptameron is considered one of the earliest examples of the short story genre and is notable for its frank and often bawdy depictions of sexuality. This edition, published in 1881, includes an introduction by the translator, Arthur Machen, and illustrations by Paul Avril. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations. Because we believe this work is culturally important, we have made it available as part of our commitment for protecting, preserving, and promoting the world's literature in affordable, high quality, modern editions, that are true to their original work.
