Kenneth Little

Kenneth Lindsay Little (1908-1991) was at British anthropologist. He attended Liverpool College and then Selwyn and Trinity Colleges in Cambridge. He received his PhD from the University of London, and his thesis was published in 1948 as Negroes in Britain. Following his studies of black-white interaction and racial discrimination in Britain, Little travelled to Sierra Leone where he conducted an ethnographic study of the Mende.
On his return from his field research, Little was appointed as a lecturer in anthropology by the London School of Economics. In 1950 he moved to the University of Edinburgh first as head of department, and later as a professor from 1965. His later research concentrated on urbanisation and the sociology of Africa.
